Time Square’s hot island and cool water (and how you can bring it home!)

Just in case if you had any doubt the power of a cool idea and some paint. Here’s a installation from the artist Molly Dillworth in Time Square call Cool Water, Hot Island. Which is an abstract representation of the heat island effect (also just an awesome use of an otherwise plain surface). I wonder how long will it be, before people show up in swimming trunks and towels to take photos with it.

Here’s a similar idea at the Sacramento International Airport by the artist Seyed Alavi. Which shows an aerial view of the famous Sacramento River. I’ll have to remember to bring a superman’s cape whenever I stop by Sacramento so I can pose with this work.

Now of course the first thought I had when I saw Seyed’s work was “Can I create something like this for my home?” after some digging I found an interesting pair of carpet tiles from FLOR: the “Be My Neighbor” and the “Hello Down There” They are both 20″x20″ tiles and pretty reasonably priced. Now you’ll need some aerial themed furniture, may be a fluffy cloud ottoman?

Well, perhaps being too literal might not fit your style. Then may we suggest the “Forest Floor Rug” from the Birds and the Bees Collection by Angela Adam? I have been absolutely lusting after this rug for some time. Its landscape like design with deep tufted patterns of various organic shapes reminds me of a moss covered forest floor and would look perfect in my living room (any volunteer to buy it for me pretty please?).

Since we are on the subject of organic pattern and moss motif, I had to mentioned a really cool concept rug (is there even such a thing?) I saw a little while ago call the “moss carpet” design by La Chanh Nguye. Which is a small bath mat made out of ACTUAL moss:

Having been an avid outdoors person I always thought that it would be wonderful to find ways to bring those cute fuzzy forest moss indoor. No word on actual practicality of this idea unfortunately.
